NEWS: EU to increase investment in Zimbabwe

Harare, ZIMBABWE, 1 April 2012/ TSZ: THE European Union (EU) says it intends to increase trade and investment relations with Zimbabwe and has urged the country to take advantage of the bloc’s support for  the Common Market for East and Southern Africa (Comesa).

The EU is funding and providing technical assistance to Comesa in order to enhance regional integration and trade activities.

NEWS: 215 Hectares replanted in Jamaica under ACP Forest Management Project

Kingston, JAMAICA, 1 April 2012/ JIS: A total of 215 hectares (531 acres) of watershed areas have been replanted utilising 113,914 seedlings, under the Local Forest Management Committee (LFMC) project, implemented through funding from the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group.

Brussels briefing 27: Expert panels probe prospects and threats to small island economies

Brussels, 28 March 2012/ CTA/ ACP: The 27th Brussels Policy Briefing will be convened next week to focus on the unique vulnerabilities and opportunities facing Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Thirty eight SIDS (out of 52 indentified by the United Nations) are members of the ACP Group.

 

NEWS: EU team eyes new deadline for Kenya EPA

Nairobi, KENYA, 22 March 2012/ NS/ AA: The harsh reality of Kenyan horticulture exports attracting 16 percent duty in its main European market is drawing closer, as the window for negotiation between Europe and Kenya on new trade rules under Economic Partnership agreements arrangement slowly shuts.

The chairman of Committee on International Trade (INTA) of the European Parliament Vital Moreira yesterday said the EPA negotiations that have taken a decade must concluded this year.

ACP holds minute of silence in honor of lives lost in coach accident

Brussels, 16 March 2012/ ACP: The Secretary General and staff of the ACP Secretariat in Brussels, today joined the Belgian nation in observing a minute of silence at 11h00 in honour of the 28 lives lost in a tragic coach crash in Switzerland on Tuesday 13 March. Amongst those killed were 22 children and six adults.
