Protected areas across Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific boosted with €60 million investment

Brussels, 28 November 2017/ IUCN/ ACP: The European Union (EU) and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States have invested €60 million in the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) Programme over the next six years – making it one of the largest EU biodiversity programmes. The programme is being implemented by IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission.

ACP Group of States condemns the sale of Migrants in Libya

Brussels, 27 November 2017/ ACP: The African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States has learnt with deep concern of the inhuman treatment of the auctioning of migrants in Libya. The ACP Group strongly condemns these despicable acts of slavery that no longer has a place in the world and amount to crimes against humanity. 
 

ACP Sugar Group disappointed with the reported negotiating stance of the EU with Mercosur

Brussels, 27 November 2017/ ACP: The ACP Sugar Group are deeply concerned with the recent news that the EU plans to modify its market access offer to Mercosur to include sensitive products, among them sugar, during the next round of trade talks between 4 and 10 December.

ACP Group of States Statement on the Court Judgement on the Petition on the Fresh Presidential Elections in Kenya

Brussels, 20 November 2017/ ACP: The Court process that has just concluded in Kenya and the Supreme Court’s decision today constitute a remarkable moment for Kenya. This significant development goes a long way to confirm the Country’s democratic maturity as well as the commendable functioning of its democratic institutions.

Ministers responsible of the development of the cultural sector and cultural industries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific gathered in Brussels on 9-10 November to discuss the crucial relationship between culture and sustainable development, under the theme: “Making Culture and Impact Investment in Achieving the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development”. Ministers committed to ensuring more attention to the sector in government plans and strategies, including enhanced funding, integration into national policies, and coordination with other departments.

EU and 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific countries call for tangible progress on Paris Agreement implementation at UN climate talks

Bonn, 14 November 2017/ ACP/EC: The European Union and 79 countries of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group together making up more than half of the signatories to the Paris Agreement on climate change, today reaffirmed their shared commitment to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and urged all Parties to ensure concrete progress at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP23) taking place in Bonn, Germany.

Ministers commit to prioritise culture in national, regional strategies in Africa, Caribbean, Pacific

Brussels, 10 November 2017/ ACP: Leaders and policy makers from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) reaffirmed their commitment to making culture a priority sector in their countries through concrete actions and strategies, while welcoming €40 million under the European Development Fund for a new ACP-EU support programme to be launched in 2018.

ACP Ministers of Culture meeting links culture, investment, SDGs

Brussels, 7 November 2017/ ACP: On 9 and 10 November 2017, the Secretariat of the ACP Group of States will organise the fourth meeting of ACP Ministers of Culture on the topic of “Making culture an impact investment in achieving 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development” in Brussels. The Ministers’ conference will be preceded by the meeting of ACP Senior Officials in charge of Culture on 7 and 8 November.

ACP Group of States calls for Peaceful Presidential Elections in Kenya

Brussels, 26 October 2017/ ACP: The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States has followed with great interest the democratic developments in Kenya. In this regard the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States recalls the historic ruling by the supreme court of Kenya on 1st September 2017 that called for fresh elections to be held on 26 October 2017. The ACP Group commends the people of the Republic of Kenya for going to the polls; this once again illustrates Kenya’s commitment to democratic governance.
