Excellencies Ambassadors,
Distinguished Representatives of International Organisations,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you all to the First ACP Ministerial Meeting on the Development of Mineral Resources. I am happy to note the presence of several Ministers, despite the difficult travel connections and busy schedules especially, at this time of the year. Your presence here today is a clear demonstration of the importance of the Mineral resources sector for your countries.

Allow me first to express my gratitude to the Government and People of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the warm hospitality they have extended to me since my arrival here. It is commendable, that for a country that has experienced so much in the not so distant past, they have so graciously offer to host this important Meeting.

I am highly delighted to welcome you all to the second meeting of the ACP Ministers in charge of Fisheries holding here in Seychelles.

Let me begin by thanking the European Investment Bank for hosting this meeting and for the warm welcome. Thanks also for giving me the opportunity to address this meeting.

It is a great pleasure for me to participate in this annual event, for the first time.
