ACP Statement on the passing of H.E. Mr. Robert Gabriel Mugabe

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

On behalf of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, H.E. Dr Patrick Gomes expressed his condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe on the passing of H.E. Mr. Robert Gabriel Mugabe, the founding father and former President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, H.E. Mr. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, has accorded Mr. Mugabe Hero status and declared a period of national mourning from 6 September 2019 until the official burial date.

Mr. Mugabe was an icon of his country’s liberation struggle, a dedicated proponent of the emancipation of the people of Zimbabwe after independence and a Pan-Africanist par excellence. He will forever remain in our memories for his contribution to the history of his country and that of Africa in general. A staunch supporter of the ACP Group of States, the Group has lost one of its strongest advocates.

RIP Mr. Mugabe, we thank you for your support to the ACP Group and to the region.
