DECISION No.8/CVI/17 OF THE 106th SESSION OF THE ACP COUNCIL OF MINISTERS HELD IN BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, FROM 5th TO 6TH DECEMBER 2017

4TH MEETING OF ACP MINISTERS OF CULTURE

The ACP Council of Ministers

-             Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, from 5th to 6th December 2017,

 

A.      RECALLING the commitments made at previous meetings of ACP Ministers of Culture (Dakar 2003, Santo Domingo 2006, and Brussels 2012) as well as the Port Moresby Declaration of the 8th Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government which called for, inter-alia, the need to place culture at the heart of development policies and strategies;

 

B.      ACKNOWLEDGING the progress made since 2012, in terms of the formulation and implementation of national and regional cultural strategies, while bearing in mind that efforts still need to be made to harmonize these policies in national strategies of ACP States;

 

C.       DETERMINED TO make culture a strategic vehicle to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015;

 

D.      Noting the Declaration of the 4th Meeting of ACP Ministers of Culture held on 9 and 10 November 2017 and RECOGNISING the central role of culture as a driver of economic growth and sustainable human development;

 

E.       Having Examined the Report of the Committee of Ambassadors to Council Doc. ACP/26/079//17 Rev.1;

 

HEREBY DECIDES TO:

1.     Endorse the Brussels Declaration of the 4th Meeting of ACP Ministers of Culture;

2.     Accept with appreciation, the offer made by the Republic of Niger to host the 5th Meeting of ACP Ministers of Culture in 2019; and

3.     Mandate the Committee of Ambassadors, the ACP Secretariat and the host country to proceed with preparations towards the holding of this meeting.
