African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States

At the meeting of the ACP Group’s ambassadorial subcommittee in charge of political matter held today, Friday 8th February 2013, the Malian delegation gave an update on the latest developments in the situation in the north of the country and issued an urgent appeal for aid.

Concluding a long and detailed description of the situation that prevailed in Mali over the last two months, the Malian delegation confirmed that the Chadian and French Forces were now in the small town of Agelhoc, which stands virtually on the border between Mali and Algeria.

Thanking the ACP Group for its political support from the very first threats from terrorists to the country’s sovereignty, the Malian delegation also stressed that the country was now urgently in need of supplies and that any humanitarian aid from the Group, whether in cash or kind, would be welcome. The ACP Committee of Ambassadors’ Subcommittee on Political, Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs pledged to give favourable consideration to the appeal from the Malian Authorities.
