Mr Paulo Salesi Kautoke

Paulo Salesi Kautoke was appointed Assistant Secretary General responsible for the Department of Macroeconomics, Development Finance and Intra-ACP Programming on 15 of March, and assumed duty on 1st July 2010.The Department’s main responsibilities include: Monitoring, coordination and dealing with the ACP Secretariat’s activities in the areas of Development Cooperation and Finance, Multilateral Macroeconomic issues and budgetary support, Intra-ACP programming and monitoring. The Department also supports the work of the Development Finance Cooperation Subcommittee and relevant working groups of the ACP Committee of Ambassadors.

Prior to taking up his position at the ACP Secretariat, Mr. Kautoke was the Head of the delegation of the Pacific Islands Forum to the World Trade Organization in Geneva from 2008 to 2010. He began his career in 1983 as an Economist at the Tonga National Planning Office. He was appointed Deputy Director of Planning from 1992 to 1998. In December 1998, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Tonga Ministry of Labour, Commerce and Industries before being seconded in September 2008 to the Geneva assignment.

Mr. Kautoke holds an MBA from Victoria University of Technology (Australia), post graduate diplomas in economic development from the University of Oxford, management studies from University of Melbourne and Bachelors Degree in Economics and Management from the University of the South Pacific.
 

A Tongan national, Mr. Kautoke was born in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, on January 25, 1958. Outside work, he enjoys rugby, opera and Gospel Music.
