Reflection meeting on the global trade developments and ACP policy responses

Area:
ACP

On the initiative of the ACP MTS Programme, a project for an ACP Post-MC-9 Reflections meeting was developed. The rationale was rooted in an understanding that the “Bali Deliverables” while being relatively modest was in grave danger of not being accepted at MC9. Furthermore, and regardless of the degree of success at MC9, there was the pressing need for the ACP to craft its own work programme on salient trade issues requiring advance within the WTO up the next WTO Ministerial. A final consideration was that beyond the WTO framework, a series of relevant issues impinging on ACP trade interest as emerging. Of this, the most notable issues were climate change, global value chains, mega-RTAs and altered political geography resulting from the rise of the BRICS.
