On 28th September 2018 the ACP Group of States and the EU began negotiations for a successor Agreement to the Cotonou Agreement which comes to an end in February 2020. This section contains all you need to know about the negotiations.

STATEMENT BY THE ACP SECRETARY GENERAL ON THE TERROR ATTACKS IN NAIROBI KENYA

Brussels,16 January 2019/ACP: On behalf of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) and the ACP Secretariat, the Secretary General, Dr. Patrick Gomes, having learnt with deep shock and sadness of the terrorists attacks perpetrated in Nairobi, Kenya on 15 January 2019, conveys his deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, His Excellency, the President, the Government and the Peoples of the Republic of Kenya. The Secretary General extends his best wishes for a speedy and full recovery to the injured.

The Secretary General deplores the heinous and barbaric acts perpetrated by the terrorists, and reiterates the ACP Group’s unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The ACP Group vigorously stresses that acts of terrorism constitute one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and which seriously compromises efforts by ACP States towards achieving inclusive sustainable development. 

The Secretary General commends the President and His Security team for the swift, rapid and effective manner in which they responded to the attacks. This confirms Kenya’s unwavering commitment and continued dedication in addressing the terrorism scourge.

The Secretary General reaffirms ACP Group’s commitment to continue to ardently engage with international partners in an effort to support ACP states to combat terrorism and extremism. The ACP Group stands in solidarity with the Peoples and Government of the Republic of Kenya during this difficult and trying time.
