MOU signed between ACP, International Bridges for Justice to promote democracy, rule of law

Brussels, 22 February 2016: An MOU was signed by ACP Secretary General H.E Dr. Patrick I. Gomes and the CEO and Founder of International Bridges for Justice (IBJ) Rev. Karen I. Tse, to promote and support member countries' institutional development in the Rule of Law and Good Governance.

New book challenges current methods of poverty analysis

Brussels, 19 February 2016/ ACP: A new book launched at the ACP House, titled “Poverty is a person: Human Agency, Women and Caribbean Households” by Dr. Theresa-Ann Rajack-Talley, calls for a more gendered and multidimensional approach to studying poverty, going beyond the traditional focus on statistics and figures.

Presented during last week’s ACP symposium on empowering youth and women entrepreneurs through South-South & Triangular Cooperation, the book attempts to address the question of why poverty still exists, using a ‘people-centred’ lens.

Special Post-COP21 Meeting: Helping ACP States Implement the Paris Agreement

Brussels, 19 February 2016/ GCCA/ ACP: A Special Post-COP21 Meeting is scheduled to take place on 22 and 23 March 2016 at the ACP Secretariat, Brussels, Belgium. The goal of the two-day meeting is to facilitate dialogue and discuss follow-up actions to implement the Paris Agreement, in collaboration with partners and particularly focusing on key issues affecting the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of states.

ACP Secretariat mourns passing of colleague Irene Handane

Brussels, 16 February 2016/ ACP: The Management and Staff of the ACP Secretariat mourned the loss of fellow staff member Mrs. Irène Handane (pictured), who passed away on 6th February 2016.

In a special ceremony, colleagues remembered Mrs. Handane, a national of Mali, who committed more than 24 years in service to the ACP Group of States as an Interpreter (English to French).

INTERVIEW: Secretary General talks ACP future with Caribbean leaders

Brussels, 15 February 2016/ ACP: The Secretary General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States H.E Dr. Patrick Gomes is attending the 27th intersessional meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community CARICOM in Belize on 16-17 February, to facilitate a discussion on the future of the ACP Group of States. Dr. Gomes spoke with the ACP Press Office about the aims of his mission in Belize and the issues to be covered when meeting with regional leaders.


Women and Youth at the forefront of forum on South-South and Triangular Cooperation

Brussels, 13 February 2016/ ACP/ FAO/ OIF: The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), supported by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), have wrapped up a symposium pledging to build new partnerships to empower women and youth.

Republic of Congo takes over presidency of the ACP Committee of Ambassadors

Brussels, 1 February 2016/ ACP: The Committee of Ambassadors of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States will be chaired by the Ambassador of the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), H.E. Roger-Julien Menga for the period 1 February 2016 to 31st July 2016.

He takes over from the Ambassador of Lesotho, H.E. Mpeo Mahase-Moiloa.

African, Caribbean and Pacific Group gears up for major summit in May

Brussels, 29 January 2016/ ACP: The Secretary General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States H.E Dr. Patrick Gomes will engage a number of African leaders this weekend to apprise them of the upcoming 8th Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government to be held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, on 31 May – 1 June 2016.
