Communique of the ACP Group on Food security situation in the Horn of Africa

The ACP Group of States is deeply concerned with the deteriorating food security situation in the Horn of Africa.

This crisis has already claimed thousands of lives and is threatening the lives of more than 10 million people with many more at risk of starving to death if relief does not reach them in good time.

The ACP Group expresses solidarity with, and profound sympathy to, the Governments and peoples of the affected countries in the Region at the tragic loss of lives, livelihoods and human suffering, especially of women, children and the elderly.

PRESS RELEASE: Uganda takes Presidency at the ACP Group

ACP PRESS RELEASE – July 28 2011: The Republic of Uganda has taken over the Presidency of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group from the Federation Republic of Nigeria, which held the office for the past six months (February-July 2011).

Communiqué from the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) following the coup d'etat and assassination attempt against President Alpha Condé, President of the Republic of Guinea

The ACP Group is shocked to learn of the attack on the residence of President Alpha Condé, President of the Republic of Guinea, by a group of soldiers on Tuesday 19 July 2011. The ACP Group firmly condemns this aborted coup d'etat and attempted assassination of the President of Guinea, and reiterates its rejection of accession to power by violence or unconstitutional means.

I am very happy to note the presence of so many participants to this important workshop. I recognise in particular several leaders and representatives from our regional financial and economic institutions.

ACP-AU Spouses donate money to Solomon Islands and Sierra Leone charities

 

ACP PRESS RELEASE – July 14 2011: The ACP-AU Spouses Association today presented 9,000 euros to the Secretary-General of the ACP Group, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, which will be sent to two charitable organisations in the Solomon Islands and Sierra Leone.

ACP PRESS RELEASE – July 11 2011: The African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Secretariat today (11 July 2011)  launched its new website (www.acp.int).

The new site was welcomed to the cyber-world after months of hard work by the Secretariat’s experts in partnership with "Word and Wires" www.waw.be, a Brussels company who built the site using the open source Content Management System, Drupal.

SOUTH SUDAN – AFRICA’S NEWEST STATE

As the clock struck midnight on Saturday the 9th of July, the town of Juba and the people of South Sudan were all agog in celebrating a new dawn and the birth of Africa’s newest nation. More than 30 world leaders gathered in the new country’s capital, the majority of them from our own ACP countries.

Luxembourg, 5 July 2011 - The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the European Investment Bank are joining forces on a third technical assistance operation in support of microfinance. Luc Frieden, Finance Minister, and Philippe Maystadt, EIB President, today signed a new cooperation agreement that will bring together the expertise, networks and resources of the EIB and the Finance Ministry in order to develop microfinance and the private sector in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.
