NEWS: More resources needed in Horn of Africa to maintain relief effort, says UN

UN News Service/ ACP Press, 7 November 2011: The massive humanitarian response to the food crisis in the Horn of Africa has eased the suffering of thousands of people, but more resources are needed to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of children in famine-hit areas of Somalia, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said in a progress report on the crisis.

ACP-EU Microfinance/ ACP Press, 7 November 2011: The third Carib-Cap Microfinance Forum will take place in the Bahamas next week, bringing together local microfinance institutions (MFIs) and international specialists in talks focused on a “Caribbean model” for encouraging business growth.

NEWS: ACP Ambassador is new Chair of European think tank

ECDPM , 1 November 2011: Ambassador P.I. Gomes succeeds Ambassador Lingston Cumberbatch as Chair of ECDPM Board; Aart Jan de Geus succeeds Berend-Jan Baron van Voorst tot Voorst as member.
 
After almost ten years Ambassador Lingston Cumberbatch stepped down as Chair of the Board of Governors of ECDPM (European Centre for Development Policy Management) to be replaced by Ambassador P.I. Gomes who took office as the new ECDPM Board Chair from August 1, 2011.

Joint conference takes stock of education, science tech projects

NEWS: ACP Commonwealth states call for climate change action

Reuters, 25 October 2011: African, Caribbean and South Pacific states on Tuesday said big greenhouse gas emitters China and the United States were dragging their feet on tackling climate change and urged a Commonwealth leaders summit this week to call for urgent action at global climate talks in November.

"The scientific evidence available to us says we ought to act now," said Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Malielegaoi after a meeting of 48 small island and developing nations in Perth.

COMMUNIQUE of the First ACP-Europe ICT Roundtable

We, the key policy makers and regulators in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector of African Caribbean and Pacific states, meeting at the Secretariat of the ACP Group of States in Brussels, Belgium on the 20th and 21st of October 2011 at the first ACP-Europe ICT Roundtable organised jointly by the ACP Secretariat and the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), with the aim of assisting ACP states to rollout and utilise Broadband;

 

ACP-CTO roundtable stresses Broadband’s crucial role in development

Brussels, 23 October 2011: Heads of ICT regulators in the ACP region emphasized the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) as a driving force behind development, and called for increased broadband penetration in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries at a roundtable event on Thursday.
