NEWS: Guyana gets EU boost for sugar sector competitiveness

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, 1 February 2012/ Knews/ ACP: The European Union (EU) has pledged another multi-million disbursement of funds in support of the Guyana sugar industry, one of the many Caribbean countries crippled by a cut in sugar prices by the EU, its biggest market for sugar. Guyana can expect around EUR 24.9 million this year, on the heels of a EUR12.5 million package received last December.

 

NEWS: Jamaica Gov't, local communes align to protect forests under GCCA-ACP programme

ST ANDREWS, Jamaica, 1 February 2012/ JIS/ ACP: Rural Jamaican communities will have a more proactive hand in protecting the country's forests, with a shared management system launched this week between the St. Andrews communities of Dallas Castle and Constitutional Hill and the Government's Forestry Department.

NEWS: Pacific fisheries laws to benefit under ACP Fish II Programme

SUVA, Fiji, 24 January 2012/ FT: FIJI will benefit from nine of the 26 fisheries projects that have been allocated a budget of EUR3 million ($F6.9m) under the ACP Fish II Programme.

The projects for the Pacific region will see Fiji specifically develop subsidiary legislation to implement fisheries legislation.

New envoys take seats at ACP Committee of Ambassadors

Brussels, 23 January 2012: The ACP Committee of Ambassadors received two peers into its fold last week. H.E Mr Badri Ali Bogoreh, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti and H.E Mr Wilfred Eduard Christopher, Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname were officially welcomed as the new representatives of their respective countries to the ACP Group of States on Thursday.

NEWS: Free trade agreements can benefit Senegal-Sri Lanka trade, says Ambassador

Senegal, 20 January 2012: The West African country of Senegal has urged apparel exporters from Sri Lanka to set up their production base in the country.

During his meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen, Senegal’s newly appointed Ambassador of Senegal to Sri Lanka, Amadou Moustapha, said Sri Lankan apparel exporters can benefit from duty-free trade agreements and the availability of cheap labour in Senegal.
